Nefsis Cloud-Based Video Conferencing Improves
Desktop Connection Success Rates
Nefsis adds more proxy support to improve
desktop reach and on-demand video conferencing among remote employees, business
partners and customers
SAN DIEGO — April 1, 2011 — Online services innovator
Nefsis® announced today the expansion of its firewall and proxy traversal
capabilities for business customers. Firewall and proxy traversal is an essential
component in online video conferencing among widely dispersed participants that
access the Internet from their own, separate networks. In addition to longstanding
support for industry standard proxy protocols, Nefsis added several vendor-specific
optimizations to its global cloud that further improve connection success rates.
These improvements make it easier to hold on-demand,
desktop video conferencing
sessions with external participants, particularly for those in larger companies,
healthcare and financial services where proxy servers are prevalent.
“One of the big challenges in video conferencing is desktop reach —
virtually all business users are behind firewalls and proxies,” said Allen
Drennan, Nefsis Chief Technology Officer.
“IT staff can meet this challenge with
gateway servers, video routers, MCUs, and other infrastructure hardware. Or, get
all of the above functionality in a cloud-based online service. The cloud-based
approach is less expensive and offers automatic updates as proxy standards evolve,
plus no more worry about running out of ports as business video conferencing
becomes more popular.”
Nefsis supports proxy authentication, standards including WPAD, NTLM, PAC
without JSProxy, Socks5, and manual proxy configuration settings. Vendor-specific
optimizations address devices such as Squid Web Proxy, Microsoft® Threat
Management Gateway/ISA Server, and others. In addition, Nefsis added more
fallback mechanisms for proxy servers with no installed proxy client.
